Processing high volumes of transcripts manually by staff can be time-consuming. Baylor University and ScarletCS will show how the new AI-powered Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature in STARS (formerly SRAR/SSAR) is transforming the way institutions can process transcript data (both high school and college), improving accuracy and dramatically reducing administrative workload. Additionally, STARS provides colleges with configurable and custom admissions metrics that enable them to dramatically expedite application review.

This session will showcase different OCR use cases, comparing workflows that allow students to upload and verify their own transcripts as well as batch processing models with staff (Baylor University approach) or student confirmation. Furthermore, high school counselors can upload transcripts for their students via the STARS Counselor Portal for batch OCR processing.

Attendees will gain a clear understanding of the benefits and considerations of these approaches, helping them evaluate the best fit solution for their college or (via the STARS Counselor Portal) high school.
